Here’s a reminder that not everyone who tells you that “they’ve got your back to just reach out if you need anything really mean it”
A heartfelt Thank You to those of you who were there for me over this past year or so as I worked to heal from an unbelievably toxic environment that tired to kick

Like many ‘Old Strong Guys’ I got Terry Todd’s book Inside Powerlifting in 1978.
In 1983 I travel 8 hours from Ft Polk Louisiana to Austin Texas where the USA Powerlifting National Championships were being held. I went hopeful to get a chance to ask Terry about getting into the sport of powerlifting

Really thought that I wanted to make a comeback in the Highland Games but …. Nope!!!
Now let me explain myself because I had such an amazing career since first competing at the Salado Highland Games in 1997 before an injury forced me into ‘retirement’… well the asshole doctor that screwed up my

THE SQUAT
Down this road, in a gym far away,
a young man was heard to say,
“No matter what I do, my legs won’t grow.”

From the corner of the gym where the big men

Sitting here on the eve of my 60th birthday looking in the mirror wondering just who the fuck is looking back at me? I don’t seem to recognize this person staring back at me…. He’s older than he used to be with more gray hair in the goatee and an age line or two by his eyes and a lot more scars on

I don't know the reason that I had gotten away from using my powerlifting belt very often except sometimes on squats, shit I can’t remember the last time I used it for deadlifts or even did a dedicated deadlift workout with heavy rack pulls and not a clean power pull trying to shrug at the top.
I

I miss my Dad.... Every. Single. Damn. Day.
If you know me then you know that my Dad and I never had the normal 'father/son' relationship that so many of you out there enjoy with your fathers and so when I see the young men that I coach struggle with the dynamics of this important relationship I

Every athlete has an inner voice of pride. It is the voice only athletes can hear pushing them to the brink of exhaustion, demanding excellence and condemning failure. Failure you have to understand is the driving force behind an athlete. Every athlete has experienced failure and now trains so

Do you know a man...
Who gives you the same respect he demands?
Who understands your motivations and goals?
Who knows your limitations as well as his own?
Who isn't threatened by expert opinion?
Whose passion for excellence has no bounds?
Who knows the man MUST be developed before the TEAM?
Who

Most of you know that back on June 6th of this year I suffered a very bad heart attack (not that there is a good one) and then got blindsided by the doctors that I would need triple bypass surgery. As I continue to come to grips and understand just what happened to me and the biggest question...WHY

As I sit outside this morning enjoying breakfast on a cool morning with Sally, our cats and dogs it occurs to me that today marks my 2 year anniversary from almost loosing my leg (and life) to infection after my Achilles and ankle reconstruction and of course the pathetic excuse for a doctor I
